This guide also covers email.com and usa.com and other mail.com domains — the steps are the same.

Before you start

  • A Mailopoly account — 7-day free trial, no credit card.
  • IMAP has to be enabled in mail.com settings and is part of its Premium plan, and with two-factor authentication on you need an application-specific password.
  • Grok at grok.com or in the Grok apps. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first.

Connect Mail.com to Grok in three steps

1 Connect Mail.com to Mailopoly

  2. In mail.com settings, enable POP3/IMAP access.
  3. If two-factor authentication is on, create an application-specific password and use that instead of your normal password.
  4. In Mailopoly choose Add email account, enter your full mail.com address and the password.

2 Add Mailopoly to Grok

This part is the same whatever you connected in step 1.

Add Mailopoly to Grok

These steps are taken from public documentation, and we haven't yet checked each one in Grok ourselves. If a label doesn't match what you see, Grok's own help page, linked below, has the current wording.

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
  2. Choose New Connector, then Custom, and enter https://fastapi.prod.aws.mailopoly.com/mcp-server/ as the MCP server URL. If it asks for a name, use Mailopoly.
  3. Sign in with your Mailopoly account when prompted, then choose what Grok is allowed to do. Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions.
  4. Back in a chat, ask.

Grok takes Mailopoly as a custom connector, so the only thing to paste is one address. On Grok Business and Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first in the xAI console. This is Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps; a Grok Bot has its own guide.

3 Ask about your Mail.com

Whatever you've connected to Mailopoly is what your assistant can reach. Some things people ask on day one:

  • What's new in my mail.com Cleanbox today?
  • Find the receipt in my mail.com inbox and tell me the amount.
  • Reply to the last message from my mail.com address.

Mail.com server settings

Mailopoly fills these in for you when you enter your address. They're here in case you need to check them or your provider uses something unusual.

What Grok can do with Mail.com through Mailopoly

  • Search Mail.com — and every other account you own — in one question. By sender, date, topic, or the half-remembered phrase somewhere in the body.
  • Read your Cleanbox, not your whole inbox. Mailopoly sorts Mail.com as it arrives: personal and important mail in Cleanbox, promotions and newsletters in Other. Ask for either.
  • Summarise a thread, a day or a week. "What did the school send this week?" comes back as an answer, not a list of links.
  • Reply from your Mail.com address, in your voice. Save a draft to Mailopoly for review, or send — sending is a separate permission and a confirm-first action.
  • Schedule a send for later, and cancel it if you change your mind.
  • Pull out invoices, events and deliveries. Amounts and due dates, calendar invitations, parcel tracking — extracted on arrival and added to My Day.
  • Find an attachment. Every attachment from Mail.com lands in PolyBox, so "find the PDF the accountant sent" just works.
  • Unsubscribe, snooze, file and mark read from the chat, on whichever account the mail belongs to.

Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions you grant when you connect, and you can revoke Grok at any time from Settings → Security in the Mailopoly app. More on the security page.

What goes wrong with Mail.com, and the fix

  • IMAP is a Premium feature. On a free mail.com account the connection will be refused however correct the password is.
  • If two-factor authentication is on, your normal password will be refused and you'll need an app password from your provider's security settings.
  • Use your full email address as the username, not just the part before the @.
  • No Custom option under New Connector: on Grok Business and Enterprise, connectors are managed by an admin in the xAI console — ask them to add Mailopoly for the team.
  • Setting up a Grok Bot instead? This guide is for Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps. A Grok Bot has its own guide: Connect Grok Bot to your email.
