Connect Gmail to Grok
Yes — Grok can read, search and reply to your Gmail through Mailopoly. Connect Gmail to Mailopoly by signing in with Google, add Mailopoly to Grok as a custom connector, sign in and ask. One connection covers Gmail and every other account you own. There's no password to copy: Gmail connects with a Google sign-in, and you can revoke it from your Google account at any time.
7-day free trial, no credit card.
This guide also covers googlemail.com and Google Workspace — the steps are the same.
Before you start
- A Mailopoly account — 7-day free trial, no credit card.
- There's no password to copy: Gmail connects with a Google sign-in, and you can revoke it from your Google account at any time.
- Grok at grok.com or in the Grok apps. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first.
Connect Gmail to Grok in three steps
1 Connect Gmail to Mailopoly
- Start a Mailopoly account at mailopoly.com/sign-up — 7-day free trial, no credit card.
- Choose Sign in with Google and pick the Gmail or Google Workspace account you want to connect.
- Grant the mail permissions Google asks for. Mailopoly uses Google's restricted-scope process and is independently security-assessed for it.
- Mailopoly starts syncing straight away. Cleanbox sorts the inbox as it arrives, so your assistant sees it organised from the first question.
2 Add Mailopoly to Grok
This part is the same whatever you connected in step 1.
Add Mailopoly to Grok
These steps are taken from public documentation, and we haven't yet checked each one in Grok ourselves. If a label doesn't match what you see, Grok's own help page, linked below, has the current wording.
- Go to grok.com/connectors.
- Choose New Connector, then Custom, and enter
https://fastapi.prod.aws.mailopoly.com/mcp-server/as the MCP server URL. If it asks for a name, use Mailopoly. - Sign in with your Mailopoly account when prompted, then choose what Grok is allowed to do. Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions.
- Back in a chat, ask.
Grok takes Mailopoly as a custom connector, so the only thing to paste is one address. On Grok Business and Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first in the xAI console. This is Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps; a Grok Bot has its own guide.
3 Ask about your Gmail
Whatever you've connected to Mailopoly is what your assistant can reach. Some things people ask on day one:
- What's in my Gmail Cleanbox that I haven't replied to?
- Find the invoice from my accountant in Gmail and tell me the amount and due date.
- Reply to the last message from my landlord from my Gmail address — say Thursday works.
What Grok can do with Gmail through Mailopoly
- Search Gmail — and every other account you own — in one question. By sender, date, topic, or the half-remembered phrase somewhere in the body.
- Read your Cleanbox, not your whole inbox. Mailopoly sorts Gmail as it arrives: personal and important mail in Cleanbox, promotions and newsletters in Other. Ask for either.
- Summarise a thread, a day or a week. "What did the school send this week?" comes back as an answer, not a list of links.
- Reply from your Gmail address, in your voice. Save a draft to Mailopoly for review, or send — sending is a separate permission and a confirm-first action.
- Schedule a send for later, and cancel it if you change your mind.
- Pull out invoices, events and deliveries. Amounts and due dates, calendar invitations, parcel tracking — extracted on arrival and added to My Day.
- Find an attachment. Every attachment from Gmail lands in PolyBox, so "find the PDF the accountant sent" just works.
- Unsubscribe, snooze, file and mark read from the chat, on whichever account the mail belongs to.
Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions you grant when you connect, and you can revoke Grok at any time from Settings → Security in the Mailopoly app. More on the security page.
What goes wrong with Gmail, and the fix
- Google Workspace accounts: if your organisation restricts third-party apps, your Workspace admin needs to allow Mailopoly before the sign-in completes.
- More than one Google account: connect each one separately — Mailopoly searches them together, and your assistant can reply from whichever address the thread belongs to.
- No Custom option under New Connector: on Grok Business and Enterprise, connectors are managed by an admin in the xAI console — ask them to add Mailopoly for the team.
- Setting up a Grok Bot instead? This guide is for Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps. A Grok Bot has its own guide: Connect Grok Bot to your email.
