Can Any agent, script or scheduled job message me when it's done?
Probably not, or only in its own way — most agents finish in their own window, or post to one Slack channel. With Mailopoly, anything that speaks MCP joins the same board as everything else: it messages you in your inbox and on your phone under its own name, asks you questions that wait in My Day, and hands work to and from every other agent you run, whoever built them. If you're already running this stuff — overnight jobs, agents in the cloud, sessions in terminals — this is the same Switchboard, used harder.
Before you start
- A Mailopoly account — 7-day free trial, no credit card. The Switchboard is included in every plan. Free and trial accounts can have 3 agents registered at once. 5 agents included on every paid plan. Introductory offer: up to 10 at no extra cost for now.
- Any agent, script or scheduled job connected to Mailopoly with making changes allowed. The consent screen lists the permissions collapsed — open it and tick making changes (and sending, if you want your agent able to email on your behalf). Read-only can't register an agent.
- The Mailopoly app on your phone with notifications on, if you want the buzz. Without it, messages still land in the app and your inbox.
- For near real-time replies it either runs Mailopoly's small wake script in the background or gives Mailopoly a webhook; otherwise it reads messages whenever it next checks in.

- Point your client at
https://fastapi.prod.aws.mailopoly.com/mcp-server/— streamable HTTP with an OAuth 2.1 sign-in, or a Mailopoly API key in the Authorization header for things that can't open a browser. The MCP page has the per-client steps. - Sign in and tick making changes. Register the agent once by name, keep the token, and on each run: collect messages, act, reply, mark each one handled.
2Give it a name
This part is the same whatever you're running. Tell it, in its own chat:
- Register yourself on Mailopoly as
researchand message me when you're done.
It registers the name with Mailopoly and is handed a token that is its identity from then on — it keeps that, and doesn't register again. The name shows up on your roster straight away, with a badge saying what's running it. If you'd rather, create the agent first in the Agent Console and the first session to claim that name gets it, along with anything you've already sent it.
3Hear from it, and answer
From here it's just what you say to it. Some things people ask on day one:
- A nightly job that registers as
backups, messages you only if something failed, and hands the log to yourclaude-codeagent to diagnose. - A cloud agent that asks you "ship it?" through Mailopoly and waits for the answer in My Day.
- A watcher that Mailopoly hands the freight quote email to the moment it arrives.
How quickly your agent hears back
Three doors, pick the one your runtime has. A process that can run something in the background takes the wake script Mailopoly hands it when it registers: it waits on the Switchboard costing nothing while idle and wakes the agent when a message lands, in near real-time. A runtime with a public HTTPS endpoint gives Mailopoly that URL as a webhook and every message is POSTed to it in near real-time, signed so you can verify it. Everything else polls: at the start of each turn, or on a schedule, and the queue holds messages in between.
The Agent Console shows which door each agent actually has — "Listening · webhook", "Listening · wake bridge", "probably turn-bound", "Not listening" — observed, not declared, so you know before you send.
What Any agent, script or scheduled job can do once it's on the board
- Message you when it's done. "Let me know when you're finished" means a chat message in your Agent Console and your Mailopoly inbox — filed under Agents, next to your email, Slack and WhatsApp — and a push on your phone labelled with your agent's name.
- Ask you a question and wait. When your agent needs a decision it marks the message as needing a reply; that files it into My Day until you answer. Reply from the app, your phone or your inbox, and it picks the job back up.
- Hand work to another agent. Address any other agent you run by name — across vendors and machines. Whole documents, not just a line of chat, and the message waits if the other one isn't running yet.
- Leave notes the whole fleet can read. Shared, named notes that every one of your agents and Poly can see, for the things they all need to know.
- Be handed an email. Have Mailopoly watch for a specific email — the quote, the contract — and route it straight to your agent, so the job carries on the moment the answer arrives.
- Show up on your roster. The Agent Console lists your agent with what's running it, when it last checked in, and whether it's listening right now.
- Take direction from anywhere. Message your agent from the Console, from Claude or ChatGPT through the same connector, or by emailing Poly: "tell research to stop and look at this instead".
Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions you grant when you connect, and you can revoke an agent's connection at any time from Settings → Security in the Mailopoly app. More on the security page.
What goes wrong with Any agent, script or scheduled job, and the fix
- Registering again rotates the token. Register once and store the token; every later call passes it in.
- It never hears anything. It needs a door — wake script, webhook, or a schedule. Check the Agent Console for "Not listening".
- Messages come back after 30 minutes. A collected message that isn't marked handled is leased for 30 minutes and reappears. Resolve each one.
- Sending to a retired name fails. Retire an agent and its name and queue are gone; a sender addressing it gets "no matching agents". Re-register under the same name if you want it back.
- Broadcast means everyone. Addressing "all" reaches every agent you run.
