Connect BT Mail to Grok
Yes — Grok can read, search and reply to your BT Mail through Mailopoly. Connect BT Mail to Mailopoly over IMAP with your normal BT password, add Mailopoly to Grok as a custom connector, sign in and ask. One connection covers BT Mail and every other account you own. BT Mail uses your normal BT email password, with SSL rather than STARTTLS — BT's own settings page confirms both.
7-day free trial, no credit card.
This guide also covers btinternet.com, btopenworld.com and talk21.com — the steps are the same.
Before you start
- A Mailopoly account — 7-day free trial, no credit card.
- BT Mail uses your normal BT email password, with SSL rather than STARTTLS — BT's own settings page confirms both.
- Grok at grok.com or in the Grok apps. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first.
Connect BT Mail to Grok in three steps
1 Connect BT Mail to Mailopoly
- Start a Mailopoly account at mailopoly.com/sign-up — 7-day free trial, no credit card.
- In Mailopoly choose Add email account and enter your full BT address.
- Enter your BT email password. Mailopoly fills in the server settings for you.

2 Add Mailopoly to Grok
This part is the same whatever you connected in step 1.
Add Mailopoly to Grok
These steps are taken from public documentation, and we haven't yet checked each one in Grok ourselves. If a label doesn't match what you see, Grok's own help page, linked below, has the current wording.
- Go to grok.com/connectors.
- Choose New Connector, then Custom, and enter
https://fastapi.prod.aws.mailopoly.com/mcp-server/as the MCP server URL. If it asks for a name, use Mailopoly. - Sign in with your Mailopoly account when prompted, then choose what Grok is allowed to do. Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions.
- Back in a chat, ask.
Grok takes Mailopoly as a custom connector, so the only thing to paste is one address. On Grok Business and Enterprise, an admin adds the connector for the team first in the xAI console. This is Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps; a Grok Bot has its own guide.
3 Ask about your BT Mail
Whatever you've connected to Mailopoly is what your assistant can reach. Some things people ask on day one:
- Anything important in my BT Mail this week?
- Find my BT bill in my email and tell me the amount.
- Reply to the last message from my BT address.
BT Mail server settings
Mailopoly fills these in for you when you enter your address. They're here in case you need to check them or your provider uses something unusual.
| IMAP server | mail.btinternet.com |
|---|---|
| Port | 993 |
| Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | Your full email address |
| Password | Your BT email password |
What Grok can do with BT Mail through Mailopoly
- Search BT Mail — and every other account you own — in one question. By sender, date, topic, or the half-remembered phrase somewhere in the body.
- Read your Cleanbox, not your whole inbox. Mailopoly sorts BT Mail as it arrives: personal and important mail in Cleanbox, promotions and newsletters in Other. Ask for either.
- Summarise a thread, a day or a week. "What did the school send this week?" comes back as an answer, not a list of links.
- Reply from your BT Mail address, in your voice. Save a draft to Mailopoly for review, or send — sending is a separate permission and a confirm-first action.
- Schedule a send for later, and cancel it if you change your mind.
- Pull out invoices, events and deliveries. Amounts and due dates, calendar invitations, parcel tracking — extracted on arrival and added to My Day.
- Find an attachment. Every attachment from BT Mail lands in PolyBox, so "find the PDF the accountant sent" just works.
- Unsubscribe, snooze, file and mark read from the chat, on whichever account the mail belongs to.
Reading, making changes and sending are separate permissions you grant when you connect, and you can revoke Grok at any time from Settings → Security in the Mailopoly app. More on the security page.
What goes wrong with BT Mail, and the fix
- Use SSL, not STARTTLS, and leave Secure Password Authentication off — BT's help page says SPA will not work.
- Use your full email address as the username, not just the part before the @.
- btopenworld.com and talk21.com addresses use the same servers as btinternet.com.
- No Custom option under New Connector: on Grok Business and Enterprise, connectors are managed by an admin in the xAI console — ask them to add Mailopoly for the team.
- Setting up a Grok Bot instead? This guide is for Grok's chat at grok.com and in the Grok apps. A Grok Bot has its own guide: Connect Grok Bot to your email.
